This book shows how science and math help us see God at work in history. Why would a scientific approach reveal evidence of the spiritual realm?

Think about a question that no one can answer. Can you tell me what will happen six hundred years from today?

To know what happens on that future day, you will need to be there. At that time, you would know the historical events that happen. Let us assume a volcano in Italy kills 712 people at 2:44 PM on that day. Then, you could travel back to our time and write a prophecy. So, you would be a prophet who knows what happens on that date centuries in advance. However, the problem with this idea is that no one can time-travel. It is impossible.

Who would be capable of existing on that future date?

Only God could exist six hundred years in our future. Biblical texts claim this is true. 

Who is like me? . . . Declare to them the things that are coming and the events that are going to take place.    Isaiah 44:7

I use science to find out if this is true or false. Then you can decide if the evidence is valid.

To begin with, there are different views of God. To know the future requires God to live forever and to exist above time. We call this view of God “transcendent.” This long word means God exists outside time. Knowing the future would be easy.

However, others do not think God could exist outside of time. In its place, they argue that God is the universe. We use the word “Pantheism” for this belief. This would mean that your body is a small portion of God. So, God exists within space and time. That means a pantheist being exists under the control of time. This type of being cannot predict the future. From this viewpoint, time, by itself, controls pantheist gods. So, the future remains unknowable.

So, if God exists outside of time, can science prove that God speaks through prophets? The Bible refers to people who claimed to be prophets. How would we know if their viewpoint is true or false? Or could we use science to measure the words that predict the future?

Here is an example that we could never measure. A prophet named Isaiah wrote that Jesus would be born of a virgin. We cannot find out if this is true or false. Only Mary would know if it were true. Other people would have to learn that Mary was a virgin. How would other people know of the virgin birth?

If you knew Jesus and saw him risen from the dead, then you could talk with Mary. Based on Jesus rising from the dead, people would want to know more about Jesus. Just ask Mary. So, we must believe what she said. But we could never prove whether it was true or false. This example requires blind faith.

Are you ready to think about finding out if a prophecy is true or false?

A prophet named Daniel wrote about the future. He also wrote about “when” the events will happen. The timing of the event makes it possible to know if it is true or false using NASA data. Also, the events had to happen hundreds of years into the future. No human would be able to know when it would happen. This means we are finding out whether God revealed the future to a prophet. Also, this would be the evidence that God exists.

What is the easiest event to use to find out if God foretold the future? Daniel wrote that Herod’s temple would get ruined. 

        … will destroy the city [meaning Jerusalem] and the sanctuary [meaning Herod’s temple].  Daniel 9:26a

The temple burned down hundreds of years after Daniel died. To find the date, we use NASA data to pinpoint it. What evidence do we need to gauge this prophecy? First, we need people who observed and wrote about it. Here is what they wrote.

1. The day of the week (It happened on a Sunday).
2. They wrote about the month and day (Fifth Hebrew calendar month, ten days after a new moon).
3. They wrote the year it took place (Year 381 in the Seleucid calendar / same as AD 70 in the Julian calendar).

Irish people got the exact day the temple burned down in 1798. They used the three facts above. I got the same date in 1986 using these facts. Professors also agree with the date.

In the book, you learn that God guides people, and then the prophet’s writing comes true. Why would God do that?

 He does that so we will know what is true or false about the spiritual realm.

 What does it mean when a prophet’s writing comes true?

Can we conclude that Scripture comes from God?

What if a prophet claims to know the future, but it fails? What does this mean?

[For example, Muhammad gave prophecies that failed even though he claimed it was certain they would happen. Read chapter 15 in the book so you know the truth about him and that it requires blind faith to be a Muslim].

If a person claims to know the future, but none of it happens, what should you do?
